Do I have to be practicing yoga to take this yoga teacher training course?
No. It does not matter how long you have been practicing yoga or how flexible you are.
As a matter of fact, whether you have been practicing yoga for many years or this is your first experience, Yoga is for everyone. And in this certification program, All are Welcome.
Does my age matter?
The American Yoga Academy has trained and certified Teachers from the age of 12 to 87, and all ages in between! In other words, age does not matter.
If your interest is there, you can teach Yoga. Yoga is not about how far you can reach or how perfect you do poses. You will discover the poses that you love and the aspects of the philosophy that you enjoy.
What if I have an injury or limitations? What if I’m overweight?
We believe that Yoga truly is for Everyone. The beauty of Yoga is that it encourages us to make the best decisions for our own body. In light of this belief, one of our main focuses in the course is to teach you variations in each pose, so that everyone, regardless of injuries or size can feel the benefits of Yoga.
Claire is available to work with you one-on-one during your personal healing journey to help guide your teaching and personal practice so that it is comfortable for you and your future students.
Who is my teacher?
Claire Diab, founder and lead educator, will guide you throughout the teacher training. She will be with you every step of the way – during and after your training.
How long will the online yoga teacher training take?
The American Yoga Academy Online Teacher Training is a flexible, self-paced program. The average time is about 4-6 months or more, depending on your lifestyle. Enjoy learning at your own pace.
Will I be able to teach after this certification?
Yes! You will be able to teach nationally and internationally. Teach Yoga Classes, Chair Yoga, Meditation, Mindfulness, Breathing Techniques, Relaxation Techniques, and so much more with confidence.

How long have you been training teachers?
The American Yoga Academy was founded in 1993. We have been training teachers in person for the past 25 years. The past 15 years we also incorporated online teacher training.
Are you registered with Yoga Alliance?
Absolutely! The American Yoga Academy has been a Registered Yoga School with Yoga Alliance since 2001 and all classes are Yoga Alliance approved. Yoga Alliance is an organization that created a standard for Yoga Schools. We have hundreds of positive reviews, which you can check out on our school profile page.
What materials do students receive with the course?
All course materials are provided. You do not need to purchase anything else. There are no additional or hidden fees.
Some people like digital materials. Others want something to hold. Either way, we’ve got you covered. You will receive a beautiful and durable American Yoga Academy canvas bag which includes:

How do I accumulate 200 hours for The American Yoga Academy Teacher Training Certificate?
The course has 15 modules, each comprised of Lectures and Yoga Classes that take about 4 hours to finish. Overall, you will accumulate the hours by completing:
* 15 Yoga Teacher Training Modules with Recorded Lectures
* Yoga and Meditation Classes
* DVDs and Yoga Instruction Videos
* Studying Course Materials and Handouts
* Practice Teaching Family and Friends
Is this course just a bunch of videos?
Absolutely not. Most online courses provide you with a teachers portal full of videos to watch and expect you to figure things out on your own. However, you can’t be a great teacher without feedback.
One of the cornerstones of our program is Claire is a pro at explaining correct form but secondly, we offer optional monthly meetings. These meetings are recorded and posted on the Teachers Portal so you can watch at your convenience. This allows you the ability to learn through other students questions.
Towards the end of your training, you will submit a short video of yourself teaching and receive direct feedback from Claire. Claire is available 6 days a week for support.
Presently, due to COVID we are now 100% virtual. We pride ourselves on maintaining a personal experience so you always have one-on-one access to Claire for any questions.
Will I have interactions with the other teachers in training?
We have two types of teachers in training – busy professionals focused on completing the course on their own and people interested in a class experience with interaction. For those teachers in training that want to connect with each other, you’ll have access to a student roster with contact information.
We encourage students to reach out and support each other. Our school is a wonderful community with like-minded people from all around the world with different professional and cultural backgrounds. It’s a wonderful way to make friends that have similar interests. In addition, teachers in training can reach out to any of our 500 Hour Teachers or Graduates who are available as a resource to help and guide you.
What is Hatha Yoga?
Hatha Yoga is the physical aspect of the philosophy of Yoga which originated in India thousands of years ago. All physical Yoga classes are Hatha Yoga. There are many different styles of Hatha Yoga that have developed over the years from different teachers around the world.
What style of yoga does The American Yoga Academy teach?
The American Yoga Academy is known for its unique blend of Hatha Yoga, Meditation, and Eastern philosophies. We infuse the philosophy of Yoga into each class in an easy, yet powerful way so students learn to live Yoga on and off the mat.
The Online Teacher Training Program is a combination of asana, breathing, meditation, mindfulness and relaxation techniques which create strength, flexibility and balance. It is a beautiful style of Yoga practice with different poses and variations for all levels. The American Yoga Academy style is for everyone whether you’ve been practicing Yoga for many years or you are new to Yoga.
